I thought I posted on this already so excuse any duplication Our youngest is thrilled with this version of DVC. The trailers were our first two vacations with the kids and they remember it fondly, as we do. When traveling with a 4, 8, & 10 it was nice not to have to worry about noise, it was nice to give them the back room to themselves, the bathroom was huge compared to other places we stayed with the kids and the kitchen was wonderful saving $$ on food. The youngest rarely goes to the parks when vacationing in Florida. Her last two vacations she sprang for a 1DPH and only for her SO. They'd rather relax at the pool and bar hop around the resorts at night so Disney needs to get the boat dock operational.

View AttachmentAt some point the old cabins will be up for sale. Who's interested in buying one? There going to move them to a corner of Disney property for cast member housing. If the cost wasn't crazy to transport them I could fit 3 or 4 and air b&b them.

If the cost wasn't crazy to transport them I could fit 3 or 4 and air b&b them. Interesting that this is the plan! Given that there are currently only about 40 residents that live on Disney property, I would have thought that it was unlikely that Disney would add an additional 400 affordable homes. However, it is possible that Disney will attempt (or already has an agreement with Reedy Creek to do so) to de-annex a portion of the property, just like it did with Golden Oak. While at the current time, those who live in the Special District no longer vote for the Board, it seems unlikely that Disney would concede that the structure will not revert back to mirror that enjoyed by the other 1800+ special districts. From Disney’ s point of view, probably the only thing worse than having the Special District run by the governor’s cronies would be having the Special District run by a bunch of random people who decide they don’t like leaving near a theme park.

I will admit that this whole "cabins going DVC" shenanigans doesn't matter to me. Except: In my dreams they would realize that they shouldn't close Trail's End. But I have to assume that when the powers that be told us they were closing Trail's End, they already knew about the DVC thing, and the decision probably went hand-in-hand. Therefore I can assume that Trail's End is closing BECAUSE of the DVC cabins. The whole thing about closing Trail's End seems odd to me...maybe I'm biased because that was our #1 favorite place to eat and we would almost always make a point to go there on Day One. But it's weird because the last few years, we always had to wait to get in, often long waits.

The "Cabins" were part of our first vacations to WDW as a family, like many others have mentioned.
We love the Fort and we extended a trip a couple years ago and stayed in one of the cabins. It was very worn and I was wondering when Disney would be replacing them, as they did the originals.
We did the HDDR a couple of days ago and during the ride through the Fort I commented to my wife that it looked like the cabins were being held together with duct tape and chewing gum. Also, the grounds around them seemed to be more rustic than needed, as in unkempt.
With that said, it seems like the replacement and conversion will be easy...just pull out the old and plug in the new. Maybe they will even include some double wides to act as two bedroom units.

Seriously....Adding 350 DVC cabins is one of the stupidest things I have ever heard proposed by DVC. These are oversized, standalone studios, that sleep six.....in the woods. Disney is going modular.....taking cheap to whole different level. I know details are lacking for the resort, but there is nothing I can think of that makes this a positive for DVC. Tom, you know as well as I why DVC is doing this. They will put points use on those cabin that are at least a 25% premium over the avg. Studio usage at other new resorts. So instead of 20 points per night these will go for 25 or more.

View AttachmentAt some point the old cabins will be up for sale. Who's interested in buying one? If I had a nice plot of land somewhere I would be interested! I am sure my HOA would balk if I propped it up here. Me!!!!! We are building a campground. The very first thought that went through my head was: "I need cabins. I wonder if Disney will sell the old cabins?" If anyone here has any contacts that might know the answer to this, I would really appreciate a message. I would love to have a conversation with Disney about buying 10-20 of the cabins. Can you imagine how it would feel if we could have a Wilderness Way street in Standing Pines with 10-20 of the old Fort Wilderness cabins? WOW!!!!!!! Here's hoping the price, if they are ever made available to purchase, reflects the years of wear/tear rather than current market prices for park model cabin trailers. Seriously, though - - if anyone hears any rumors or has any solid info on this, I would dearly love to hear about it. This could be a very helpful thing for us.

Curious to know if there is a floorplan. This could likely be a very quick turn around for them considering they are made off site and can just be moved onto the property. Swapping out old for new really.
