One time, when I was a new school bus driver, I was leaving the lot and I saw a guy I was friends with who was just coming in the lot. I stopped with my window open, arm on the window sill, leaning out a little. He pulled up next to me with his driver's window open, so were face to face. He said, "What?" I asked him if he had any Grey Poupon. Next thing I know, he couldn't talk and he just drove away laughing. I do that all the time. The kids have no idea. Also when they leave the house I say "have fun storming the castle" I got looks of what the hell are you talking about up until about 2 years ago when they finally watched princess bride.

I don't get this at all. There is nothing Deluxe about Fort Wilderness. And there's a zero percent chance they will sell points at a lower price point because it's a moderate resort. This is a mystifying decision. Disney needs a cheap DVC option. They have been forced to lower the minimum buy-in.

I was surprised at this announcement, but it is interesting. I can see us trying one of these out on a low key trip. We like Ft. Wilderness. Currently there are 409 cabins, so I’m curious if the plan is to get rid of a particular loop if they are only replacing 350 for the new DVC versions. I also wonder if the new cabins will be larger than the existing, or at least have a different layout which might include 2 bathrooms instead of 1.
Transportation would be a concern, but today each cabin has a spot to park 1 vehicle, so if we have a rental car then transportation becomes less of a problem.

I would hope that the new cabins would have options for larger families. And perhaps a little more landscaping to each "campsite." They definitely need a separate pool, restaurant, and dedicated transportation.

Hate to be a Debbie downer here ( more of a realist), but I see a huge influx of traffic at VWL if they don’t put a table service restaurant there. Thank goodness there is no pool hopping ( but I have never seen anyone monitor the quiet pool). Remember all those Ft Wilderness people crowding the pools? Geyser point better get more seating. They are gonna open that boat loop and that will be the start. I have yet to see a quality refurb from Disney. I expect this to be on the cheap with only a year do do ALL of the renovations. I just cant believe the transitioning I am witnessing. Disney needs cash now!

DVC foots the bill for the new cabins, which as Tom said will be very cheap compared to an actual building. Plus the pool etc. Then Disney have lots of brand new cabins to sell until all of them are declared to DVC. They get money from the cash bookings and then DVC becomes responsible for all the running costs paid by maintenance fees.

As things stand the statement says they will sleep 6 adults and just one bathroom. With the slightly bigger footprint that appears to be the case from the concept art, they can either have a master bedroom with just one bed, plus two beds somewhere in the main living area, or make the bedroom like a studio with two queens and then just have one Murphy wall bed in the living area. The idea of a sleeping loft in the main area, with the raised roof space that’s shown is not a bad one. I still think they should rethink and have a shower room and toilet off the master bedroom (with just one bed) and then a full bathroom.

To make these cabins DVC worthy they need some amenities like: 1. Bring back some version of the FW Railroad. 2. Add a new Ye Old Swimming hole, a call back to River Country 3. Each cabin's deck should have a hot tub. 4. Golf cart rental should be included for each night of the stay. 5. A guaranteed reservation to Hoop De Do, along with a discount.

Or at least guaranteed availability. I personally don't care for 5 though.

Of course it depends on the quality and the square footage of the new, DVC cabins, but generally, I'm interested. I love FW. That being said, to get me to stay there, the DVC cabins would need some unique amenities that are not available to the rest of FW.

We are absolutely excited beyond measure about this! We are big "FORT" people!! We often tent camp there on long weekends just to hang out at the fort. Halloween and Christmas time are beyond words to describe the spirit and decorations. Double bonus some of them will be dog friendly!! Now we can save a few bucks on our dog sitter too. WOW this made our week.

At some point the old cabins will be up for sale. Who's interested in buying one?
