I, for one, am thrilled! I told DH, and his response was "In a way, that makes sense!" The long-time DVC owners often go to WDW, and rarely go to the parks. They focus on the activities, primarily the ones right at the resort they're staying at. And for activities, Fort Wilderness is terrific. And for some, just walking around, enjoying the nature. DH and I are both bird-watchers, so we'd love this. Like someone here mentioned, our first visits, way back in the late 80s and early 90s, was in , what was then "The Fort Wildernes Trailer Homes". At that time we went with 3 children under 10 yo. A few years ago we went back with 2 college-aged kids, and I'd never try to put 6 in there. I just hope they don't make points for it on par with a 2 BR. If they are wise (wait, it's Disney. never mind...) they would make a few larger cabins and price them accordingly. Not everyone needs a cabin that sleeps 6, and some would prefer something that could sleep 7 or 8. Maybe a little variety in their cookie-cutter world...

Mindy maybe it’s just me, but I bought into DVC for deluxe accommodations. This new DVC addition is not feeling deluxe to me. No ma'am. At present, this is definitely not deluxe. Now, I think that it could be developed into a really nice stand alone resort. But that would require more time and more money than Disney is willing to spend. Deluxe-level cabins would offer a quieter stay than a studio at the Poly where you can hear your neighbor's small child having a screaming meltdown. And a big "lazy river" would be a real selling point with families, I think. But a modular trailer overlooking a clump of weeds and some underbrush doesn't qualify as "deluxe."

Are there currently 350 cabins? Just looking at the map, I'd say around 50 right now. But I don't have an exact number. We did a trail ride several years ago, and we rode near some of the cabins. The current views are not stellar.

Are there currently 350 cabins? According to the sources I can find, there are 409 cabins. We did a trail ride several years ago, and we rode near some of the cabins. The current views are not stellar.

I agree we will not see bungalow or CCV cabin prices. It will not be rolled into a different resort. I'm curious how it will all work though. Feels so different than most DVC. PBB at least had a 2nd phase in the works from the start. This would almost be a repeat mistake IMO if this is all you get unless something is changing. VGF resort studios are certainly different than the normal DVC deluxe studios and not equal accommodations for equal point requirements. It does appear they are pushing the DVC envelope and I’m not sure I like the way it’s going. To me they are not thaaaat far off but yes different. Cheap swap. We also have the tower rooms at RR but I appreciate all types of rooms. To me this is a weirder offering. Mostly because 1 bedrooms are the last to go and I expect these to offer space for 6 and not much privacy and my guess is similar in points to a 1 bedroom. I could be wrong, but I am not quite understanding the demand? I checked my pack of crayolas....I couldn't find that color. Is it anything like puce? That just doesn't seem to add up. So you'll have these new moderates that cost maaaaybe $200/pt with higher point charts than SSR. For it to work, they'd have to turn SSR and OKW into complete dumps to essentially try and revalue every DVC property by dumpiness. Heck, Grand Floridian was supposed to be the top...as good as it gets, then along came Riviera. DVC has kind of painted themselves into a strange corner with the point inflation. SSR, BWV std view, OKW, AKL, all kind of in the same ballpark point wise. Then it just started shooting up. Maybe SSR will have a resurgence because of its value proposition at scale. Actually believe it or not, the SSR treehouses aren't that crazy point wise. Pretty comparable to a 2-bedroom at SSR. I think that the big negative with the treehouses is location. They are farther away from the central resort. Most people who have stayed there recommend having a vehicle. We would still like to try them sometime. But they make no sense for just the 2 of us, and we are planning on AKV for our next family trip. Maybe someday... That is the negative for us. That and parking. Now if they offered a golf cart I'd stay in a heart beat. I stayed in one of the villas as a kid and loved the shape of them.

Yep, as they are now this does absolutely nothing for me. Add a hot tub and suddenly there is at least some intrigue. Or even something else resembling a unique deluxe amenity such as the aforementioned usage of a golf cart.
Do nothing to truly upgrade (the most likely route) and to me it’s a huge waste of space.

This is weird. It’s just weird. It’s really weird. we decided to buy dvc because staying at the cabins wasn’t going to work for us. Transportation and food being the main reasons. so… weird.

Hmmm...I agree with the thought that if done right its a good thing. I would do a resort only stay there with my sisters family - if points were reasonable. To me the key is reasonable point cost, if points are high then its a no brainer and a big NO. If reasonable - I think its something different and could be a nice change. Never stayed there, but I do love the wilderness lodge

Yup.....I had been keeping an eye out for new construction/renovation. All they have to do here is pullout the existing modular and install a new modular structure. Then they will have to furnish them.
Taking cheap and easy to a whole new level. And by cheap, I mean for the cost for DVC to build (purchase) these modular structures and just replace over the existing.
