But the funny thing about the hvac systems in Disney rooms, I can only speak for the OKW ones, but if it's 68 in there, and you turn it to 69, okay it stops cooling. But if you turn it to 70 it will start blowing heat in an attempt to bring it up to the temp you set. Not funny at all. This is what a well-designed system is supposed to do. One that has both heat and cool in the same interface. It has a small deadband where it's off. But if the temperature is below the setpoint by > deadband, it should heat as that is what was asked for.
Cheers.

When we leave the room I always wanted to turn the thing up to some moderate temperature, rather than turn it off, so when we come back it hasn't been "off" per se. But the way it's set up, I have to flip that switch to off and it warms up more than I'd like in there.

My newer one has a heat/cool setting that allows or auto switching though my threshold is larger than 2 degrees. I personally like Disney's set up when traveling solo, it turns on heat fast enough lol

There are some rare days here when we might use a little heat in the morning and a little AC in the afternoon. But really, I'd like this so that I can just set a range and forget it.
Looking at some WiFi thermostats that do this.
Dealing with ISP network issues at the moment and some very bizarre possible wifi password issues and want to get that sorted first. Very strange stuff.
Cheers.

Look into the Ecobee. Programmable and can also use sensors in each room and the system balances based on settings. And can be monitored or adjusted on phone app.

I will definitely look at that one, although a quick check has them on the pricey side. But definitely worth investigating since it's a one-time sorta thing
Cheers.

My son bought this first. His home office was always harder to balance than the rest of the house and this allowed him to "turn off" the controls of other rooms, etc. Since he was so happy with it DH had to have one too. A houseful of engineers needs toys! (my quoting capabilities escaped me today)

That’s too funny. Lots of blankets, get it when it can be cold. Try down. I always went with Company store for my down comforters through the years . you must be so proud of your son. He’s got this. The waiting time must be stressful. On another note when you made a comment about driving, drop off or pick up. We all get to that point after doing it for years. But once they are able to drive… you sort of wish to have to be the driver. Your nights are never the same until you hear that car pull into the driveway. It’s not so much about them, but others on the road. I di have some down throws. All my blankets are throw sized because I'm the only one who is cold. My side of the bed gets piled up at night. I'm actually not too stressed by the Eagle for my kid. He did the work and his binder is solid. He just needs to go in with some confidence and he'll be fine. He's done a lot of stage work so I know he won't totally lose it. He's also done enough other board of reviews to be okay probably. He last one was a year ago for Life so he did decent in the time between Life and Eagle. I'm very mixed on the driving feeling. He has so much he has to do that driving will help us out a lot. I let him be very independent and he is often not riding with us anyway but with teens and I feel comfortable. I know him driving will be different, but he's far more cautious than I am and we have strict laws he has to follow for one year as well. I'm sure the first snow will get me. I do already track him as it is lol I’m picturing a pile of throws stacked up, so no blankets for your bed, lol. driving , it takes getting use to but we do. Though the first snow…. Yea that is worrisome. but, still Fl has cooler months that you still run at the sane temps… really? I believe you were calling my desired temperatures insane, but yep, year-round is year-round. Works No, lol it was a typo. I was asking if you kept it at the same, temp but typed sane. Fl does get cold snaps aren’t you cold having it at sixty something when it does?

But great in fall and spring when weather is crazy up and down here. I di have some down throws. All my blankets are throw sized because I'm the only one who is cold. But great in fall and spring when weather is crazy up and down here. I know that nest is Google. Does it reply on any of the voice services to work effectively? We don't use any of those, and just want WiFi (or Z-Wave) control.
I should also add that we don't need any remote sensors. A single-point thermostat will work for us, in the position where the present one exists. So we may not need anything as fancy as these as opposed to a basic WiFi thermostat.
My main thought is to do some control remotely. For example, I set the thermostat at 77 during the summer when we're away for power savings. But it would be nice to set it back to 74 a few hours before we come home. Or, if I forget to set to 77 and leave at 74, and then have left on a trip, I'd like to be able to rectify that.
Those are really the primary use cases.
With a main router, access point, extender, networked washing machine and garage door opener, Z-wave control network, Ring alarm system as well as 5 camera...I may have enough automation to want something simple
Cheers.

No it does not require voice. It also can function without wifi. I actually did not want multiple sensors (old house with some airflow issues) so that was not part of the equation for us. For me, the ability to change temps while at home is quite nice though. I can access to see what to do when traveling and make sure it's good for our cats. But that's just icing for me. The Nest was our first connection to smart homes and we've built our lights, range, smoke detectors, door locks, and cameras into one system. Started sith Nest. Funny how it snowballs sometimes. But you can use the Nest as a basic thermostat with a few extras if you like. I'm a fan of it znd glad I got it when our last thermostat was wonky.

Looks like nest natively requires a C-wire, and we don't have one. There is an adapter for this, but the reviews indicate some issues. There are other WiFi thermostats that natively don't require the C-wire. Otherwise, this does look like a nice product.
Cheers.

Fl does get cold snaps aren’t you cold having it at sixty something when it does? Ah! That makes sense. Though I've been called way worse regardless, ha. Yep, during the cold snaps I debate using a blanket for about 30 seconds before I convince myself otherwise. That's the extent of my questioning myself...Sometimes I'll have another cup of coffee or a can of soup. But the thermostat temperature ain't changing, ha.

I've debated those access point /extender things, mainly Amazon's just because they're always on sale on Prime Day and Black Friday and such. Just wish I knew whether it would make a noticeable difference. The house isn't that huge. 3 bedrooms, 2.5 bath over 2 levels, roughtly 1,500 square feet or so I do believe. Haven't had any noticeable issues while streaming yet, but I'm always apt to add another tv (or two or three...) to my man house.
