We roll 68 here, too, Minnesota. Then we turn it down to 67 at bedtime. I usually wish it was colder but the electric bill could get extreme. I loves me a pile of blankets. In colder weather...dang if we heated the house to 68 in the winter, we'd be DYING so it's 63 or 64. Used to be 62 but we've gotten older and 62 can get chilly if you are sitting around. And in spring or fall with windows open overnight, the house will often be in the 50s when I wake up in the morning. Which admittedly is very cold.

I do like to 'feel' the seasons so summer is 74 and winter is 62. If the heater gets turned up to 63 I start sweating immediately. DH and DS say I have some kind of disability. In the summer I will go down to 72 but if it's there too long I'm outside getting warm. LOL

In the summer we run 75 during the day and 68 at night for the spouse who is always hot. His office is in the basement so he is cool with 75. During the winter its 67 during the day and 64 at night. I'm miserable but own lots of blankets.
Lazy Sat morning. Kid's last required in car is today in 2 hours. Will be nice to be done.

As I mentioned, we run 74 in the summer. Fortunately, things cool into the 50s/low 60s in the night, so I can just open sliding doors at night and not have to worry about AC. It generally turns off at night, so we only need it during the day. And at night on the hottest days.
In winter we go 65 during the day and set 55 at night. This is gas it ain't cheap. If/When we go heat pump we will likely use some more heat since the solar will pay for it. Even though our furnace is like 14 years old or so, it's in such darn good shape, seems it'll never die.
We have experimented with setting the thermostat lower in winter and using space heaters (a neighbor with solar does that), but we just don't like it as much.
Cheers.

This made me smile because here (Minnesota) heating season with gas is so much cheaper than a/c season with electric. Nobody does electric heat around here. Heat pumps I don't know how the costs would run, I haven't heard of anyone using them...one problem is when it's -20 for two solid weeks, there isn't much heat to scavenge outside - that head pump would struggle to get anything. And I'm jealous that even in the summer, you get down into the 50s outside and can open windows. "Windows open at night" season ended sometime during May and we probably won't get it back for a few weeks yet.

Electric is expensive relative to gas. I think the prevalence of solar here may have depressed the rates. Definitely contrary.
Cheers.

Hope everything went well today, good luck to him. 64 at night I might be a little too cold. I think I keep it at 66 adjust if I wake up and it’s too warm drop it down, getting to cold bring it up. I’ve always had down quilts for years, previous 2 homes but I haven’t had to use it since we have been here. Been through 2 winters. My other house I would have froze without my down quilt. As I mentioned, we run 74 in the summer. Fortunately, things cool into the 50s/low 60s in the night, so I can just open sliding doors at night and not have to worry about AC. We have experimented with setting the thermostat lower in winter and using space heaters (a neighbor with solar does that), but we just don't like it as much. Cheers. 50’s/60’s at night…. Nice sleeping weather, but you do live in one of the rare places with ‘perfect’ weather. Warm during the day, cooler at night, no humidity. HW being another perfect weather state. Our MB is on the 1st floor so I wouldn’t be comfortable with my windows open. Would do that at last house because it was upstairs. Of course that was only for a few short weeks with our seasons. I would pay the price with allergies and that was usually pollen season. But oh just to have that breeze come in. My upstairs bedrooms here have balconies get a beautiful breeze off the water. We are not on the water but we are a corner unit close enough to enjoy the breeze. My son when he visits will open the slider and enjoy it. Or maybe that’s to take the chill off from my daughter if she’s here too, dropping the air down to 70, smh. I’ve told her you know you can get a beautiful breeze if you open that slider. 55 degrees at night! Grr I would be cold. We are propane but since moving I really can’t complain about heating costs or electric. What we were paying when we lived in NJ was ridiculous. We had PSE&G and it was a combined bill. But in the winter, high due to heat, gas FP I don’t think my gas stove was the reason. In the Summer the electric for AC. We maybe had two months, once the cold left but before the heat started that our bills were in the $300 range. Other than that, $500 sometimes over $600 per month. Aside that I had an old 100 yr home that lacked proper insulation. My 3rd story was a full staircase walk up attic the size of the whole house. But that door and stairs was in our bedroom. That cold would just come down and freeze us. So it was the opposite of the heat rises to the top. Upstairs was always colder. the pricing I think makes a difference. Everything costs more in NJ. So I think how much we are charged here is less. In addition being a new built the insulation they did. Our electric co is a cooperative, so apparently we are all owners? Look as long as my bills aren’t crazy I’m happy. My propane bills in the winter months December January February. The coldest months were never over $220 p/month so I’m okay with that. space heaters, they make me nervous. Not to say I haven’t used them. I used them on my enclosed porches because my porches have always been an extension of my house. I did have one that prior to us moving, I bought that I did use in the bedroom. It had a timer and actually was very cute. Looked like a mini chiminea. I think we used that because it was cold but if we upped the temp. The vents were over our bed. It would be suffocating. It’s dry heat and I have bad sinuses. Also, my GSD, was older and ill. He always slept in our room and he needed some warmth. my daughter has it now, and we use it sometimes in the winter if we are there. Because she has that system that is popular in Europe. They are also great in older towns where central AC could be cost prohibited and much better than having window units. It’s actually become quite popular where we use to live because all the towns are old with historic homes and older homes. I was in luck, the previous owner had put in central air, but so many even those who have lived there for years do not. They are individual units in each room, which can be controlled by remote. They are usually mounted up high near ceiling on a wall. It’s just that again it’s hard to get heat regulated it’s either too hot and you lower it and then it becomes too cold. Another older home. So that takes the chill off without hot heat blowing down on me.

Next up is Eagle Board if review. Probably will have to wait until after Labor Day due to one of the district guys traveling.

Electric seemed high in Missouri, but we moved from Illinois where our house had both gas and electric, so that first bill was a bit of a shock. Added solar panels this spring, and our electric bill has been only the cost of having electricity available since April. We get credited for our excess electricity.
Keeping the thermostat at 73 this summer.

My response would be stronger than a single word. Multiple curses preceding the no, in fact. 68 year-round in my Florida abode. It ain't cheap. But it's of utmost importance to me. All year? Really that’s cold. I realize from reading you don’t like the heat, though you moved to FL…..if I remember correctly you live in Jerrzee I use to live there too and I can remember some years being in our third ‘official’ heat wave by the third week of July. With them showing it was cooler in Fl. So you had to be used to hot and humid. It gets cooler in certain months in Fl. 68 all year. Don’t you get cold during certain months? Some months drop, to the 60’s a rare cold weather front dips into the 40’s or 50’s. You are just a bit south of where my son lived, college years. I remember they were getting a ‘cold front’ I asked if he put the heat on in his apt. He said no, it’s warm all day with the sun shining in if we keep the blinds, curtains open it heats the house so no heat. But 68 all year and on cold nights….. brrr….. I hate the cold. Yep, all year. I detest heat. Yes, New Jersey sucked in the summer months, too. Well, especially in the summer months… Those who wish to visit can plan accordingly. An ex made the mistake of changing the thermostat without consulting with me while I went to get us breakfast. Returned to a sweltering hotel room set at 80. Was never even potentially a serious relationship again after that. And we have reached freaking Monday once again. Bah humbug.

I always went with Company store for my down comforters through the years . you must be so proud of your son. He’s got this. The waiting time must be stressful. On another note when you made a comment about driving, drop off or pick up. We all get to that point after doing it for years. But once they are able to drive… you sort of wish to have to be the driver. Your nights are never the same until you hear that car pull into the driveway. It’s not so much about them, but others on the road. All year? Really that’s cold. I realize from reading you don’t like the heat, though you moved to FL…..if I remember correctly you live in Jerrzee I use to live there too and I can remember some years being in our third ‘official’ heat wave by the third week of July. There are some that think to cool or heat the higher or lower will make it cool or heat sooner. Duh no. If it’s too cold you raise it. When I hear people say oh we shut the air off a few degrees if it’s to hot you lower it. it is the same with those who shut off the AC. If it gets cooler and you want to open windows, just raise the temp. The shutting on and off wears on the system and is not energy efficient. when I hear people say oh we shut the air off… duh. If you have some cooler days then raise the temp. If I’m not home or even if I am. If the temp in house hits 76 or above. I want the ac to kick on. Same thing with heat. I live in an area that many are not full time. If I wasn’t I would still make sure temps are set so that heat or ac kicks on not that there’s no heat or AC. but, still Fl has cooler months that you still run at the sane temps… really?

yeah my wife can be one of those that doesn't understand the concept of a "thermostat", despite the name being the name literally meaning "heat constant" but oh well. But the funny thing about the hvac systems in Disney rooms, I can only speak for the OKW ones, but if it's 68 in there, and you turn it to 69, okay it stops cooling. But if you turn it to 70 it will start blowing heat in an attempt to bring it up to the temp you set. If someone turned it up to 80, that heater ran and ran and ran and was on it's way to 80 until you walked in the door with breakfast and said some choice words.

It’s not so much about them, but others on the road. I di have some down throws. All my blankets are throw sized because I'm the only one who is cold. My side of the bed gets piled up at night. I'm actually not too stressed by the Eagle for my kid. He did the work and his binder is solid. He just needs to go in with some confidence and he'll be fine. He's done a lot of stage work so I know he won't totally lose it. He's also done enough other board of reviews to be okay probably. He last one was a year ago for Life so he did decent in the time between Life and Eagle. I'm very mixed on the driving feeling. He has so much he has to do that driving will help us out a lot. I let him be very independent and he is often not riding with us anyway but with teens and I feel comfortable. I know him driving will be different, but he's far more cautious than I am and we have strict laws he has to follow for one year as well. I'm sure the first snow will get me. I do already track him as it is lol
