I still do not think the Tower "fits" into the existing resort. That aside, I do like how its coming together and the renderings look great. Looks like we are getting some of those "smaller" studios, like the Tower Studios at Riviera. But, but… tower was part of original plans decades ago, ha. Amazing what can be found…. I was surprised I couldn’t even notice the tower from the gift shop upstairs at Grand Floridian. i like what I’ve seen. Still want a restaurant or at least a lounge. I’m sure I’ll stay there at some point. At worst it will be a nice air conditioned respite while wandering the monorail resorts. They're supposed to be adding some dining. It was announced way back. The ground looks at least to be similar to Riviera in a way with food near pool and such. Speaking of original tower... 12 stories and yes it changed. Disagreements can be found why. My gut is time needed to finish wouldn't allow disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2011/09/histories-of-disneys-contemporary-and-polynesian-resorts/

That link you just provided from 2011 about the Contemporary and Polynesian and corporate Disney taking over the Hlton Inn to be the planning and design center during construction in 1971 ! WOW …Thanks helenabear How did you research & find that? Very interesting and now I want to know more about the “Eyes and Ears” publications made for the castmembers . Once upon a time but not anymore history.

Got you on the duplicate post I honestly follow the Polynesian a lot. Those who know me well (and many who only kinda know me here) know I'm a massive fan. I'm in quite a few groups for Polynesian Village Resort only and have read a lot of history of it. The Polynesian was first seen in the 60s under what they called the Florida Project. If you know what to look for there are lots of sites dedicated to Yesterland type info. This case though I knew what to search and found it by googling. You might appreciate this pic I posted yesterday of one of then original drawings for Polynesian. It was ultimately scrapped as was the 12 story tower but the comparison of old and new are amazing to see. Tikiman is a massive fan and keeps lots of info out there. My first visit to the Polynesian was 42 years ago. My first stay was in 1986 after multiple visits.

Interesting..... June 4th for DVC reservations..... but for CASH, not points. This is a first and sucks too! Cash reservations always open first though. There’s the same discussion happens every time. The only real difference this time is that DVC members are getting a chance to book a cash stay first, but somewhere in the back of my mind I’m thinking that happened at VDH too. With the tower there are no “first day” owners as such, because all Poly owners can book there using home priority. Just like for “GFV 2”. This is how I see things happening: - After the 3 days of staggered cash bookings, they announce a sales opening date about a month away. - Potentially, current Poly owners get a few days head start on add-on contracts - Existing DVC members get a week or two head start on sales. - Then sales open for everyone. For DVC points bookings, since the Tower will open within the 7 month mark: - All Poly owners get 2-4 weeks priority booking - Then all DVC members can book The new and current Poly owners will still get first chance to book the room they want on points, since the cash inventory won’t affect the declared inventory. If they are so inclined, existing DVC members can book a cash room to make sure they get the room they want and cancel if they can later book on points. The cash rates will give a good clue as to the points charts by comparing to the points and cash rates for the current studios, I’ll be interested to see if they have a penthouse 2-bed available on cash inventory.

I was hoping the Tower was going to open the week before Thanksgiving. I have a trip planned the first weekend in December and was hoping to move my reservation to the Tower. The announcement clearly said December opening, that pretty much kills any chance I had to move my reservation over to the Tower. Looks like I will have to change my Tower plans to February now.

I kind of guessed it was going to follow Riviera's "end of" year that they did when they announced "end of 2024" I'll guess a couple few before Christmas. I think we are just planning a May/June trip there. Though my kid is thinking about F&GF again so who knows. We'll talk it out though there's talk about his girlfriend joining us next year. Not sure how that's gonna work (they're HS kids so sharing a room even if 2 beds is probably a non-starter)

Cash openings are not always the first to be there. Original PVB, it was points first. It was a very tight timeline. Sales opened mid Jan (my contract was signed Jan 23 - my mom's birthday) and then prices went up early February when non-members could buy. Then bookings opened to PVB owners Feb 11 (exactly a week after my birthday). Non-owners had the 25th (another birthday in my family) Resort opened April 1. Though it was in phases as well. Current offers end June 24th I think I saw (give or take a few days). I don't think we'll see any firm costs much before then. Point charts maybe. (and then I'll have to dig into savings more LOL) They are giving AP and DVC first crack at cash rooms. I know new but I expect it to not be full price. I have found cash stays don't help as much with point cost. They vary a lot tbh. I have a friend who books DVC rooms often for cash and the differences in costs might surprise you. Or should I say lack of difference in prices of some and massive in others you wouldn't expect might surprise you. Typically they give current DVC owners (not resort specific) first dibs on buying in. Then non-owners. I doubt it's going to be PVB specific. I think that would be a first.

I wonder if the actual opening date for guests will be announced prior to June 4th or will we just be surprised when they start taking reservation?

I think Disney has to announce in June if opening is in December to be within the 7 mos booking timeframe. Points to ponder; Will there be any significant promotions reducing the initial buy in price? How much of a upcharge will FW be? The points chart? Ugg

Ugg Nope, they do not change points charts nor do they give 7 month booking at opening. Original PVB was sale mid-Jan and only offered a discount for a few weeks. Then public with a $5 increase. Booking was Feb 11th for owners and 3 weeks later they opened it to non owners. Point charts will remain for the bungalows and studios for 2025. I expect an adjustment within a few years. I do not expect good discounts. The $17 off ends June 24. I'd be surprised if we saw more than VGF's $8 off or even that much off. I think prices will increase before sales too.

I'm just curious how long it will last! I have that 100 coming if Disney leaves it alone, but I am pretty sure I'll want more to add to my current contracts, once I see point charts. I'm not paying $205 for resale on a halfway stripped contract though. www.dvcresalemarket.com/listings/polynesian/plc3275/Resales are going crazy...
