I've gotten a few solicitor cold calls over the past few months, and just one more today, and I'm hoping others have experienced the same and can shed some light on what is going on. They're very confusing and alarm bells start going off in my head when speaking with them -- it feels very scammy.
- They know my (or my wife's) name
- They say they're calling in regards to "unused weeks" with Interval International and our Disney Vacation Membership
- They said they have a conference coming up and want to buy/rent our "unused weeks."
- They didn't offer it at first, but when pressed, they admitted their company was "VRS" or "Vacation Rental Services" I believe
- I asked how he knew I had "unused weeks" and he said, "well do you know what getaway weeks are?" And I said yes, and he said, "well, what are they then?" And I told him please remove me from his list and hung up on him.
So this feels super icky, but I'd sure like to know how they got my name and phone number in the first place. Does DVC share our info? Does Interval International? Does anyone know what kind of scam they're running? Doing a google search it sounds like they might offer you a fair sum for...something? But then ask you to pay up front some amount to do it, which is clearly a scam, but I'm not sure if this is the same thing as the search result I came across.

I don't know anything about your particular situation but what I DO know is that as much as we don't want to believe it, info gets out. Sold or stolen, it happens. It's taken me years but I kept telling my wife "you can't have the same password at all your sites because somebody will get it and go down the line and plug it in to all your other sites" and FINALLY she's been creating different ones for different places.
Are the deeds in Florida public record? I don't know if any old person can look at them.

Your ownership of DVC is public record through the Orange County's Comptroller's office.
I get all kinds of scammy calls re: our DVC. They always ask for my husband because our landline number is discoverable on the internet associated with his name. It's mostly people willing to "help me" get out of my timeshare. Sometimes I chat with them and ask them inane questions like, "What's your favorite baseball team?" as if I'm a desperate shut-in. I got a spate of them about a year ago and started to jot down names. One would call and I would ask them if they knew "Bob" or whatever the last person's name was who called me. I would tell them what a nice person he was and then make up a conversation I had with them. Just to waste their time. Eventually, when I'm done playing with them, I tell them that we no longer own DVC. They go away for a few months.

No calls here - that I know of. If we do not recognize the number, we do not pick up. If it's important, they leave a message.

No calls....but I do get emails.
Your info is public record and companies like the above prey on the uninformed and uneducated.

I have gotten calls. Info is public, but they are guessing on unused points. I had a similar lines used on me, but I use all my points and often need more - lol

I know our ownership records are recorded with Orange County, but are our phone numbers associated with those records as well?

I get so many calls of this type I had to get a spam blocker on my phone …. Usually, when I got them they would ask about renting a unit number like it was a proper name…… But they would also ask for an ex wife who hasn’t not been on the deed for 15 years

if you get one of these calls, ask them if they know " Perogie"
He is a popular scam baitter who recently spent 24 hours with his team, pretty much collapsing the scammer's entire network.....
He may have also gotten into their servers and crashed them too....
If they hear his name, They will hang up and not call back..... It is too much a risk for them....

Some calls but not many for DVC. I know our info is totally public. It's usually not hard to put all info together to find phone numbers. Spam blockers are my friend.
