I once received points for recommending Magical Vacations Travel to someone via PM. At the time, the agency booked large blocks at Disney resorts and rented them out at a great discount. For instance, I once paid less for a week at CSR than I would have paid with an AP discount for the All Stars. The name of the travel agency is censored on the DIS because it's a no-no to mention any TA other than Dreams, so I did a work around to give the person the name of the agency. About a day later, *boom* I get points for a "filter violation". I had told the poster that I was going to send them a PM on a thread so someone (WMDoc, I think) went and read my PMs to catch me. Oh...I may have gotten suspended for that once or twice.
I also got suspended for writing out stuff with s p c e s between the letters, to bypass their filters.
I got suspended for posting a backhanded "fu" to doc.
Why my account never got the perma-ban is beyond me.

I never liked the Dis board much because there were too many people on it. That's why I liked MO (both old and new versions) because there seem to be fewer people, such that I can get a sense of different poster's personality and kind of get to know them. I always wondered, though, about the person who left MO (also before my time) and took the database (or something - the whole story seemed almost like a legend the way it was treated on the old board). At first, I thought it was Pete Werner, but apparently not.

Why Kim never sought criminal or civil against him, I don't understand. Mike was angry with Kim. Stole the MO database, including personal info from its members. Then he literally deleted the server and shut down the site. But just like the story in Spaceship Earth, all was not lost....there was a back-up and Eric (Kim's husband) was able to have everything restored by the next morning. Mike also tried shutting down the MO facebook group, but forgot I was also an Admin of the site and was able to undo those changes too. Mike went on to start DVC Info website, which is no longer run by him.

DVCMike passed away earlier this year I think. I’m sure I remember reading that on a blog somewhere, maybe BlogMickey?

And, I agree with you - probably criminal. I see that he had Parkinson's. My mom is currently suffering from that and I wouldn't wish it on anyone!

Yes he died due to complications from Parkinsons. He stepped down a number of years ago because of it too. What he did was downright criminal, I agree. Kinda crazy how much into power/fame some of these people are. Not to put him in the same league as Petty Pete W though. That man is a monster

I have to tell this story. I really despised Webmaster Doc. He gave me many infractions, But I knew he owned at HHI. So I thought “ what the hey, wonder if he would rent to me?” Well, he did! Rented me a studio ! I mean I just simply PM’d him. I was sure I was gonna get banned. He rented that studio to me at $15/pt. It was a great rental, easy to work with. I still laugh to this day. I guess money talks!

Since we are Akso talking about past MO stuff, does anyone recall the MO-DVC news connection?

Since we are Akso talking about past MO stuff, does anyone recall the MO-DVC news connection? I didn’t get the whole story. But early on I would feed Ted Kraznewski ( name?) info for his website when he first created DVC News. During a brief conversation, he stated how rude Kim was to him when he was moderating on MO, how they had constant conflict, and that’s why he was moving on to create DVC News. I think she didn’t want to hear is comments about the site. Really never got any details but know there was bad blood there between him and Kim.

I found DVCNews before MOs. Apparently a bunch of posters on DVCNews left MO's but MOs was mentioned so I checked it out. I learned a lot, but Geez Oh Man was there a lot of derisive posting going on there. I'd go back to DVCNews for a kinder gentler forum and they'd explain stuff that I'd read on MO's but was too 'hand-smacked' to ask for details. Then one day I went on MO's to find a shed-load of posters were gone and I could ask a question without derision. For a long time after that I really enjoyed MO's but towards the end, once again, posters dropped off because of the very disenchanted with Disney (pun intended) posting. I felt for Kim because she seemed really betrayed by $-making Disney. I hope she's well but I was kinda getting tired of justifying my enjoyment of WDW. I was glad to see Magicowners created and the posters who transferred over.

Wow, I remember searching MO to read some threads/history when the topic came up in newer discussions and learned about stealing of the DB but had no idea he pulled that other crap. Couldn't remember who it was either, just that they started their own site. And people here confirming regular reading of people's PMs on Disboards, good to know and also, wtf? Wonder if they have that in their "terms and conditions" of using the forums...nope, don't see anything that says "oh, and guess what, your Private Messages really aren't private and we'll read them if we think we can ding you for them." Good grief.

I have to step in here to defend DVCMike, or Mike Prewitt by birth. He was a good man who died a slow and demeaning death suffering from Parkinsons; but as an Evangelical Christian, he had peace and assurance of his future. When he left MO and started DVCInfo, I joined him as a moderator there and then was immediately banned (with extreme prejudice) from MO despite my constant participation and numerous "photo loaded" trip reports. I wanted to participate in both forums (MO and DVCInfo) and I don't understand why everyone was so snarky and weird. Mike started DVCInfo from his love of Disney and his amazing talent in photography, and he did it all on his own dime, with no advertising...he funded it all himself to share his extensive knowledge of DVC with anyone who was interested, with no financial competition for MO. His widow is lovely, too.
After he was diagnosed with Parkinsons, DVCMike sold DVCInfo to Russ Clark, who is also a nice guy, but Russ added advertising and eventually partnered with DVCNews, and it's all gone downhill from there. There are probably lots of folks here (cough....Jamie....cough) who saw the potential of DVCInfo, and then its slow decline.
