www.cnbc.com/2023/05/18/disney-scraps-lake-nona-florida-campus.htmlDisney scraps plans for new Florida campus, mass employee relocation amid DeSantis feudKEY POINTS Disney will no longer be moving forward with the construction of its Lake Nona, Florida, employee campus. The company will also no longer be requiring California-based employees to relocate. The announcement comes amid a bitter feud between the company and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis centered in part around the company’s special district and development plans.

According to the New York Times article, the relocation would have brought more than 2,000 jobs to Orlando, with an average salary of $120,000 (values according to Florida Dept. of Economic Opportunity).

I think that plan was likely in jeopardy regardless of the dispute as I heard a lot of Imagineers were not willing to move.

One has to feel for the 200 employees who already moved to Florida to be part of the team at Lake Nona.

One has to feel for the 200 employees who already moved to Florida to be part of the team at Lake Nona. Especially if they sold their California home. They likely will not be able to afford buy back in.

An article I just read said that they will work with the people who have already moved to try to work things out. I saw this coming. The affected employees didn't want to move and now the political issues.

I wonder how the politicians and others who have been supporting DeSantis in this battle are feeling now. 2000 people making an average of $120,000 per year would add approximately 240 million just in their salaries to Florida's economy.
Other companies might be also considering whether Florida is business friendly. What we have to realize is that the world, like it or not is changing, and many companies both accept and support the diversity which the Florida governor and politicians are trying to suppress.

I see this as good news. Regardless of the politics and squabbles, at the root of all of this was a forced relocation of over 2000 employees. No one wants to be forced to uproot their families and move. It's understandable that a company might want to shift operations to more favorable tax situations, but forcing people to move is just sad. Those people who don't want to move can now stay where they are and keep their jobs. Disney is still planning to add 13K jobs in FL over the next 10 years which will be for people who already live there or want to live there. I see this as a win all the way around. Hopefully Disney will help the people who already moved but didn't want to relocate back to CA.

Well, considering that these relocated people would be Californians (you know, "those people") they will probably spin it as a bullet dodged...
And we're happy to keep them here
Cheers.

Timing seems suspicious to me. Maybe the 200 or so employees destined for Lake Nona will be officed on the Halcyon.
