Big change for me coming up. This week is my last week to work. I am retiring on Feb 3 after 28 years at my current job. I am both very excited to have my time to totally be my own and also very anxious to no longer have a steady income from an employer and the loss of my benefits (fully employer paid for all medical, dental, vision, life, LTC, etc. Is it weird to be excited to be able to go to the grocery store and Costco whenever you want and not mostly on weekends? I am most excited to now be able to go to WDW without having to schedule around payroll, end of month, etc. Congrats! I just retired this January. I retired early and am not eligible for Medicare for 18 months. So I am paying a hefty Cobra payment. But I saved for it, so it’s all good. Life is just so different now ( have only been retired for a month).

So looking forward to it and the freedom, but also strange to think about no "paycheck".

Here's hoping you enjoy retirement as much as we. DH was a little wired about the benefits but so far our PPOMA has been equivalent to our former benefits. One of my favorite WDW memories is sitting on the Boathouse dock with a chardonnay and confirming my agreement to separate. I shed a few tears because I really thought I'd have to work until I was dead at my desk. Then I sent our former benefits manager a thanks because it was due to him that I met with the company provided financial advisor to learn that I could retire.

I think the biggest obstacle is realizing you can actually afford to do it! Took that leap of faith, and realized that you don’t really need as much money as you thought to comfortably retire. I found out that my wardrobe has been drastically reduced to Levi jeans, Frye boots, a few tie-dye t-shirts, a couple of sweat shirts and I am good! The occasional Charcuterie board, some wine and fruit, and dinner is done! Quite a savings right there….

Thanks for all the good thoughts. I know it is all going to be just fine--this old dog just has a hard time with change and I have had a lot of that in the last one and half years since DH passed away. Lots of changes and adjustments have really been testing me, but it is all going to be ok. I am glad to now have this site as a constant in my life.

Up and at WalMart at 7:30 AM? Not exactly what I am planning on in retirement - LOL Well I'm 46 and "retired" is just something we say, I'm more of a "house-husband" so I bring wife to work because parking is a real problem, then I do my shopping errands on the way home.

Mine has always been 2-3 pairs pants, a few shorts, a few shirts, and a few sweatshirts, done. I guess I've never had an office job. When I worked in a factory I had "work clothes" but I worked in a paint booth so really it was the cheapest thrift store stuff I could get my hands on. Sometimes church-sales when they are closing and they are practically giving the stuff away...that's where it's at.

One time, I was at a church sale or similar, and saw a pair of running shoes I could wear. They were marked 50 cents. But they were closing so everything was half off, so I paid a quarter. It was the only thing I bought. I wore them for three years, they were my daily shoes. Except for sometimes sandals in the summer. When I retired them, they had holes in the sides and stuff, but I still wore them as "garage shoes" I have a sister in law who still reminds me of my 25-cent shoes
But then I go to Disney and buy a couple sweatshirts for $50 apiece.
