Is the AP better than the Salute tickets? Actually yes. My brother priced the military discounted tickets compared to annual pass. It only makes sense if you're going to make just one trip a year and go for 4 or 5 days. But my family takes three trips in a year. And the nephew will probably be there for two of them. His brother has already been there for the last two. And taking two more on his own. His brother got an annual pass when they briefly opened sales in 2021.

I did receive an email response from the Passholder Program, which did answer some questions:
"We are excited that beginning April 20, all Guests can purchase or upgrade to any of the four Annual Pass types, subject to eligibility and availability (eligible Disney Vacation Club Members may purchase or upgrade to the DVC Disney Sorcerer Pass during an exclusive pre-sale beginning on Thursday, April 13 as well)! "While at present, we do not have information aside from that which has been provided by the Walt Disney World® official blog page here, we are able to share that Guests with wholly unused standalone Tickets may upgrade to an Annual Pass. This can be done in-person or over the phone only by contacting Walt Disney World® Disney Vacation Club Member Services at 800-800-9800, available Monday - Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Eastern Time and Saturday - Sunday 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. "Please note that while partially used Tickets that are still valid may qualify for an upgrade, this will have to be validated in-person at a Disney Planning Center, the Disney Springs Ticket Center, Guest Relations or a vacation planning location. Please be aware that multi-date tickets in which one of more days have been used on dates when an specific Annual Pass would normally be blocked from use would not be eligible to be upgraded to that pass type. Expired or fully used Tickets cannot be upgraded."

The hiccup on this might be that the children must be underage or share the same permanent address as their parents. So if the nephew's residence falls under his parents' contact address then you are fine. Very generous gift Grandpa Mohawk gave! With the online sales it will be interesting to see how everything is verified. Yes the nephew is in the military so his official permanent address is his father's. Actually both of my brother's sons have a permanent address of their fathers. And if I'm not mistaken the way they verify is when you activate. You actually go to guest relations with your photo ID. And as long as you're photo ID matches the address of the account holder on file, there's not really a problem. It also helps that we have a unique Polish last name. It was never questioned before. And yes Grandpa Mohawk was a very generous man. When he and I bought our original DVC contracts and we found out about the perks we wanted to make sure that all the family enjoyed them as well. After all we were buying timeshare so that our family could spend time together. Now that the kids are getting older, it's even harder for us to get together on a daily basis. But they all love Disney So it becomes a good place for us to spend a few days together. I am under orders whenever I book a trip to just let them know the dates and then they join in when they can. The annual pass makes things so much easier for all of us. But since the kids are getting older and settling their own households, that's why we're considering adding names to the contracts. We would like them to continue the tradition for as long as we have DVC. Nothing would make me happier than knowing after I am long gone, my nieces and nephews are taking their kids to Disney. The older way was to go to GS and activate. For renewals they no longer do this. For future we are supposedly able to do this online so unsure what the process will be. They haven't sold new passes since the no GS activation happened. We'll find out soon I guess APs absolutely do help out. When buddies want to do a Birthday trip, it's easier to do. When kid marches Main St. my husband thought nothing of coming in for pretty much just a day. When passports might be an issue for the future spring break we can plan a day or two and not worry. I was so glad our renewal was allowed to be made into a new pass so we could keep our AP in an active way during covid. Not having an AP would have left out some awesome trips!

I do know my kid's band tickets didn't qualify at all but at least those with UT type tickets should be fine.

I think we can order any of the four passes. If thats true, we might bump down to the pirate pass. Are you sure about that? It appeared to only be available to Florida residents. Has you clarified that with MS? I would do the same but I don’t think we as DVC members can get a Pirate pass. I made a mistake as I read it quickly. It said all four passes would be available - I didn't read on to see it was florida residents only. Must have been wishful thinking...

I am not surprised by the decision to sell AP's now. It is a guaranteed cash flow in, especially when they are laying off 7000 employees:( I know everyone for the most part likes Iger, but I am still not a fan. The prices of the AP's are high. at 900+ for the sorcerers pass that is really nothing to sneeze at. Having said that, I will renew, like I always do, but at what point are the passes no longer worth it? I am asking, as I ask myself this every year I renew my passes. I used to renew 5 (when my mother was alive) now I still renew for the four of us (and I have my mothers unactivated pass still in her account as I still can't bring myself to transfer it to me) With the cost of renewal for four around 3500, at what point does the cost no longer justify the pass?

The funny thing is this question is always answered as "how much would it cost for x number of day tickets versus an annual pass?" As long as Disney keeps raising the price of day tickets, they will keep those annual passes affordable. So really your question becomes, when does Disney become unaffordable for your family? I don't like the idea of one day having to pay $2,000 for my annual pass. But then again will that still remain the same percentage of my income as it is today? And will day tickets be $300 a day by then? Of course I keep waiting for Disney to price themselves out of the market and the crowds keep coming. I don't understand it.

A fixed income surely changes that analysis. Being retired, I definitely have to pick and choose where I spend my discretionary dollars.

Even with these price increases, Annual Passes are still the best option to visit WDW.....if you go several times a year.
With the passing of the Labor contract, expect price increases or 7%-10% for most items over the coming year at WDW.

With the cost of renewal for four around 3500, at what point does the cost no longer justify the pass? $969 is a steal. It's only $270 more than a 6-day hopper. A week trip plus any other trip will make it a value. Now $1399 for the platinum pass is a tougher sell. To make that work, it's priced at approx 2 week trips plus so most ppl would not be justified to buy the platinum. To me the PP is all about ppl who want to go over Christmas break. If you do, then the $430 premium is probably going to be worth it. I think the cost no longer justifies the pass when you want to take time off Disney. Until then, as long as you're going a couple times a year it'll justify.

It really makes sense to get them as much as I hate the price. Simply put, with 6 nights in Dec then another 5 in Mar that $1000 is cheaper than separate tickets..

So what do we do on Thursday when they said we can buy them, just click on the link to buy? I guess I'm all thinking it's going to be like trying to get a Moonlight Magic but I guess it won't be.

That's why when Disney raising ticket prices more than COLA it pushes average Americans out of the market. And that's when they earn the criticism that they have lost Walt's way.
