I agree that nothing anyone posts or quotes will change minds but it is of interest that even Christie, Pence, Sununuu, and even Trump agree that this is not very Republican. Just feels very authoritarian to almost anyone who doesn’t have skin in the game. Seems like a losing argument. Especially on the national stage which seems to be his play. www.politico.com/news/2023/04/18/chris-christie-ron-desantis-disney-00092505The Republican way is usually to bend over backwards to give corporations every opportunity possible. So this is definitely not that. This is about control and Desantis looking tough.

This is your opinion. Others may not share that opinion. And others do not share yours as you can see plainly. Just picking as this was the last comment here... I will state again it is insanely easy to tell certain biases here. No one will change another's mind. So let's remain kind. I fully agree. On both parts, that it is easy to see many do not share same opinions or positions. And as my AP History teacher taught me a long time ago, Majority opinion does not make it right. The US Constitution is not in place to ensure the will of the majority, but in fact to protect the rights of the minority opinion..

By the way, I am sure that all of us on all sides of this argument about RCID or whatever it is called now can agree that it is ludicrous to think that a State Office would shut down an entire park for a day or days.
But, as happen now, I am certain planned shutdowns of certain rides are for inspection purposes!

The US Constitution is not in place to ensure the will of the majority, but in fact to protect the rights of the minority opinion. We had entirely different history classes then. It was supposed to protect the rights and civil liberties of all mankind. Even in spite of our inability to look at all mankind as equals initially, which we technically corrected (though in practice often not). It's never to protect just a minority opinion or a majority, but right of individuals. In fact often vocal minorities are 100% in the wrong and often quite harmful to many at times trying to make others act or believe as they wish. We need to realize that our beliefs do not trump another's. We also need to find ways to coexist and realize that a difference in opinion is fine and as long as that opinion doesn't infringe on another's right, we can let each other live out as they wish to do. Example: we should have the right to wear a shade of rainbow colored hair. Those who disagree are not harmed nor forced to wear their hair in bright colors, but need to let pink, purple, red, etc haired people alone and be themselves. It's their right to be themselves. A massive issue is that people don't agree and are using their opinions and beliefs as facts and feel all should be the same. We should never expect that or we will oppress people vs giving them their civil liberties and freedoms. History talk over.

When I look at what is happening in today's world I think William Golding's "Lord of the Flies" and George Orwell's "1984" or possibly "Animal Farm" are becoming reality in our lifetime.
Thanks helenabear for your comments.

But, as happen now, I am certain planned shutdowns of certain rides are for inspection purposes! I read that WDW's safety/inspection standards are more stringent than the state's are. If accurate, the threat of state inspections is just more of the governor's attempt to pander to his autocrat loving base.

We should never expect that or we will oppress people vs giving them their civil liberties and freedoms. History talk over. Civil Liberties is a term that did not exist at the time of the writing of the US Constitution. The writers of the document spoke about the "Rights of Man". Civil Liberties is much more recent terminology and has implications I am fairly certain the writers did not consider. And while it spoke to the rights of man, they knew it was limited to the Citizens under the power of the document, not all mankind. That is a very broad intepretation and in line with the "living document" theory. The Document protects certain rights. Those rights were spelled out. The document was set out to define the limits of the government, not its citizens. BTW, my History Teacher was one of the most progressive/liberal individuals you would ever meet and also one of the people that I respect the most to this day. History over, we can debate on a private thread but I am not sure we are really saying something that different.

Really not a debater especially since my kid has been doing American History a lot the last two years where the Constitution and Bill of Rights comes up often at home. Let's just say I'm happy with what my kid is learning and very happy for things like the 1st and 14th amendments. www.ushistory.org/gov/10.asp#:~:text=Civil%20liberties%20protectedThis is more of how they are teaching it now even if a phase is new. Enjoy your day though. I'm on the hunt for fun stuff for our upcoming trip.

It instills a power in government the founding fathers NEVER intended if you read all their other writings with the Constitution. And likely why this nation is as divided as we are now. Ok, this squirrel is out of History. Back to finding points to trade for VWL.

Anyway, I disagree that the Constitution is not a living document. It has and should change with the times. It has changed 27 times already!
I'm curious if you feel that DeSantis's actions against Disney are constitutional? It seems to me that what he did was a violation of free speech, but I'm curious as to your take.
