Interesting travel day yesterday: We were going to San Diego (from SJC) for the day for my mom-in-law's 91st. Morning flight down. If anyone is familiar with SAN airport, it's right in the downtown and one practically has to fly between tall buildings to land. That doesn't work with fog. And we had fog. As we got there, the pilot circled a bit, and got the go ahead to land. As he was coming in, landing gear went down and I could tell we were low but didn't ground, Well, apparently he didn't either. Heading down then then a sudden incline and a big push steeply up. Only our second aborted landing in much travel. We circled a bit and came in the other way with no issue. Only about 40 minutes late. It impacted the whole day, so our return flight in the evening was delayed. As we were boarding, another FC passenger (hurray for upgrades) said that he had seen us on the morning flight. And so had the folks in front of us. At least 6 people on the same two flights Cheers. Happy Birthday to your MIL! I've never had a flight do that. Other crazy things. But never that. Reading all this IT stuff is giving me hives! Too stressful for me. Pretty sure my house will never be a “smart house.” I’ll just stick with pressing the garage door opener manually and turning lights on the old fashioned way, while I watch TV using my 100 mile antenna. Works for me🤣 Both my spouse and myself are IT people do this is more fun for us. He's still the hardware guru and I'm the total technogeek in the house. We both set up our dual internet providers with mesh systems so that's something we can bond over lol We used ro have CAT6 running through the house. We actually make our own cables and terminate ourselves. Learned eons ago in college for our job but it's not hard. However since I moved to laptops more and we only have a few wired things, we removed a lot and use wireless. Our mesh system does have jacks for plugging in devices or hubs as needed, but most are not set up that way. We do run our server through wired. Most other things are now wireless. We get good enough speeds etc that we're happy using it. Kid's board of review is officially set for Tuesday the 5th at 7pm. We'll help him prepare for it but he's pretty ready I think. Be nice to have that stress removed and he can just enjoy being a Scout

But I also do this for fun because I'm inherently a geek as well. mrs. brp refers to me as "her IT guy" as she's merely a geophysicist
But I really like playing with this stuff and started using X10 automation more than 40 years ago, recently moving to Z-wave. it's fun to geek out with than and complex formula-laden spreadsheets.
Cheers.

Cheers. Dyslexic me thinks software and formulas are nightmares lol. But I get it coming from different angles. It's fun to be geeky about stuff. I admittedly get annoyed when people say that I can always ask Luis for help. Uh.... No thanks. I got it. He helps when I am frustrated (like the time the kid spilled milk on my laptop - unintentionally but while intentionally dropping the cup pretending he needed s sippy cup and I was so shaking mad he disassembled the laptop to clean and dry) but otherwise we each do our thing and rely on the other when it's not what we like to do. While I do some CSS scripting I don't love it (again dyslexia issues) so he'll create a script to randomize photos. When we need tech in the house it comes to me. When he wants server hardware it goes to him. Kid's laptop kinda hosed? Whoever is around. Kind of nice. But we are very ahead of the game with some tech and that's all because I'm a device geek.

Congratulations on a successful landing. This reminded me of when our eldest went to college in the midwest. The college had it's own airport so for the first couple of years she flew to home and to join us on vacation in Florida. So DH and BIL decided instead of driving out for the football they'd try flying. Neither really cared for the 'hopper' experience. During the return flight at the stopover airport the airplane seemed to be very affected by updrafts. DH kissed the tarmac on landing with the pilots laughing in the background. When they returned to Philly they both said they'd rather the 11 hour drive.

It's official, kid became Eagle Scout tonight! Glowing responses from the committee. District rep was beyond impressed with his leadership skills and ability to articulate thoughts well. Gotta say I'm proud!

I didn't before, but let's just say the long wait during the interview and then after made me wonder at times. He definitely did know what he was doing and impressed them. One of the youngest Eagles in a while (covid made some requirements super hard thanks to the previous Scoutmaster sitting on his behind letting kids not do requirements). Not that it means he's better, just was determined and we supported his drive to earn ranks the way he did. More proud of how well respected he was by adults as a 15yo.

Well, I'm very disappointed in myself because there is this tile we are looking at and I have it open on Lowe's and I refresh the page every day to check the price. It had gone down, it went down more, it went down more and she told me to go ahead and buy it. Well stuff happens and it slipped my mind; I just look now and it's up up up. Dang. I just feel stupid. Which sometimes I am. Luckily we only need two boxes, so the when I say it went "up up up" that means like $11 or 12 a box, so $24 for the whole thing...but still
But the real thing I feel dumb about is: I have airplane tickets x2 I had purchased and suddenly a couple months ago the price started dropping, and kept going down. They were down just about $200 each and I was getting ready to get my nearly-$400 back when they shot way up in price. At least I can know that the price I paid for them initially was less than the price they are now.
I tell myself, "Who could have known?" But still.
