We're looking to possibly rent our OKW points to offset renting points from another owner for a high-demand resort. Looking over the DVC rental sites I have bookmarked, dvc-rental.com seems to offer OKW owners the best price at this time. I'm not familiar with them so would like to know if anyone has direct experience using them or have heard/read from others who have to know whether they're someone we should engage or not. If you'd rather not post to this feedback to this thread, I'll gladly accept any input or insight via PM. If people are interested, I'll post an anonymized summary of what I receive to the thread. For those curious and possibly looking to rent their points, we have an April UY at OKW and are looking to rent 2025 points. As of yesterday/today and according to their sites: - DVC-rental.com will pay $18/pt
- DVC Rental Store will pay $14/pt (had to submit a form to ask)
- David's will pay $16/pt
- DVCReservations estimates ~$16/pt
- DVCstore.com says "up to $17" which I'm guessing means $14-$16/pt for OKW and no better than the other resorts. I didn't bother to inquire given DVC Rental Store's site "up to $18" is $14 for OKW.
We've only rented our points once since we bought into DVC in 2020 (distressed banked points that came w/ the resale contract) and used the same company where we bought the contract (dvcstore.com) for that. The experience went perfectly fine but they're offering $2-4 less per point than dvc-rental.com and we're not in a rush to offload a handful of very distressed "free" points this time around.

They are new to the scene, as many others are these days.
Many DVC brokers now offer rentals too.
I have always rented my points myself. No need for a middle man, DVC requires minimum works compared to renting other timeshare or vacation properties. But $18 per point is not bad with little work on your part.

I have been an owner since 2000. I rented out a few points once many years ago with DVC Rental store/family member could not make it. (I was so nervous about it lol). This past year, due to my DH's unexpected illness and passing, I rented out two reservations with DVC-Rental.com and had no issues. I already had these existing reservations for us. At first I thought I was renting with the previous broker since I already had a positive experience with them. I had no clue and just did not remember - but DVC-Rental has also been all positive. I plan on using them again, until I know/decide how I will use all my points for myself (and my family/two sons also own small SSR contracts), I plan on making a reservation and renting it out again. I will eventually have my first solo trip and worried about booking more than a week. I still plan on going twice a year. I can't think of any other place, I would travel "alone". If I am ok, I can book longer trips or book a 1BDR instead of a studio. Probably too much info here - I don't want the hassle of contracts, dealing with a potential renter, etc. etc. Good luck whichever broker you go with.

I have always hesitated to rent because of the tax issue if & when you sell. I think it places you under different category when you file because you weren’t just owner , you operated a business Maybe ? Can anybody explain this concern also about renting ? Thanks . Currently it seems keeping points to rent might be a better option than selling because some of the DVC points have not been increasing value lately and a lot For Sale to compete with . I am comparing price I think I paid in 2018 for small contract resale at BLT .
Thanks for any insight and advice .

Thanks for the insight; I don't remember when I set up my DVC rental site bookmarks so didn't realize they're newer. Yeah, this is an unexpected rental situation and it will be very rare when we aren't using our points ourselves...and wishing we had more. I'll have to do a bit more research and decide whether I want to initiate myself into personal renting vs. let a broker do the bulk of the work to receive $18. I have been an owner since 2000. If you look at some of my infrequent posts, you'll find you can NEVER provide too many details for me; I struggle to keep mine to a minimum, lol. The more details, the better. Thank you for sharing your experience using this broker, very helpful. And my sincere condolences on your husband's passing.

decide whether I want to initiate myself into personal renting vs. let a broker do the bulk of the work to receive $18. I don't imagine I'll ever have extra points, but you never know. If that time comes, like you I'd have to decide "easy way or less-easy way" and I imagine I'd be way more comfortable going through a broker. But out of curiosity, what sort of price difference would you be looking? You said $18 for that broker you are looking at, how much more could you maybe get doing it yourself. Then of course you'd have to multiply that out, would you be looking at a couple hundred bucks, more maybe....At which point, I'd be telling myself, "I'm paying a broker $200 for the convenience of taking care of it for me" or something along those lines.

Since they're OKW points and there are far too many people who don't love OKW like we do, looking at past posts here I'm guessing $20/point is a reasonable ask and is lower than what brokers would offer. At around 180 points that we have to rent (can go higher if someone needed), that would make it a $360-$440 difference from letting the broker do the work vs. doing it myself. It might be worth asking more for someone looking for a 7-month ressie outside of OKW but that also means finding availability. Pros and cons and I'll have to weigh them a bit more to decide.
