I'm considering splurging on a 2BR at Riviera this coming summer. We do not own there, so I can't see availability, but the online resources which provide availability charts indicate we might be able to get one at 7 months. Fingers crossed! Can anyone out there help me with these questions:
* Are Dedicated and Lock-Off villas separate bookable categories (I probably could find this by checking for a mock reservation but haven't), or is it luck of the draw? * If bookable, I think the lock-off would be better for my family's particular situation, in that it would allow us to leave the living room as non-sleeping space while providing three separate sleeping spaces in the second bedroom. Are there any cons to the Lock-Off that I should be aware of that aren't readily visible in the floorplan diagram (for example, I can see that it won't have the two side chairs that the dedicated 2br has, nor will the closet be as big, etc.)?
Any requests I should make, if we get one of these villas? General tips for Riviera?
Thanks!

Lock offs are always labeled separately from dedicated 2 bedrooms that have each at the resorts. It'll show. Lock offs will depend on the availability of the studios though. If the studios are booked, you cannot book it.
The doors from the main living area to lock offs are a pain to get in and out sometimes as the door handle only works on the one side of each door. What room type are you booking? That will help people give requests for the rooms.
You can always look up availability whether you own or not on the RAT as long as you are a DVC member.

Right, understood. The doors from the main living area to lock offs are a pain to get in and out sometimes as the door handle only works on the one side of each door. Ok, right; good point to consider. What room type are you booking? That will help people give requests for the rooms. Hoping to book a standard 2BR LO.You can always look up availability whether you own or not on the RAT as long as you are a DVC member. Oh goodness I don't think I even realized that. SMH. I'll have to look.... Thank you!

We were just at the Riviera from Monday until today (we’ve switched resorts). I booked a dedicated two bedroom standard view. I did it about six months ago basically by checking every day, more than once a day, until I got what I wanted. I found availability changed quite a bit in the course of only a few weeks.
We were pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to a preferred view on the seventh floor. Everyone loved it, we had no complaints. We were sad to leave but we got a nice room at Boulder Ridge, one of the different configurations, right off the open balcony to the small lobby. We like the refurb so now we’re happy here, lol.

If you can get it, I'd ask for higher floor and see if you could be near the skyline. We were on the opposite end but high up and could see some of Epcot.
