Hello all, I need some savvy SW credit card advice. As a big proponent of cash back cards, I find my cash back is not keeping up with the increase in SW flight prices. So it is time to bight the bullet and get that SW card. Many questions I have ( especially tomandrobin); 1. I can qualify for both cards, but May stretch it to get the total introductory rewards for the business cards the additional 40,000 points in 9 months. Still other factors are good. Which business card is better? 2. Personal cards - each has a positive and negative. Comments appreciated!

Have you considered the Chase Sapphire Preferred? You can transfer the Chase points you accumulate to SWA.

See the other threads on this in the transportation section.
Sapphire earns you Ultimate Rewards Points. These transfer to partners, but do not count toward Companion Pass (one of the best perks of the cc games).
If you want Companion Pass, you'll want to steer toward the Chase RR Personal card and Chase RR business card. Opening both of them can get you a Companion Pass almost immediately.
If you want your points to not go only to Southwest, then the Sapphire is good; the Ink is better. See the bonus categories on each. 3X on travel and bills is a big deal to me. Disney resorts count at 3X.

With regards to Chase, to utilize their points toward travel you have to book through Chase Ultimate rewards travel. Is Chase Sapphire the same? I have the Freedom.

Thank you John. Yes have to be done with the Sapphire credit card. So now I need to rethink this. One new thing with the Freedom card, I can book directly with Southwest through the Chase website and the points are automatically included in the booking screen. Thank you for your post!

Do a sample booking using the Chase travel portal and the SWA site. Compare the points required by each to book the same flight. You should see that Chase charges you more points than SWA. This is why I transfer my Chase points to SWA to book SWA flights. I checked PHL to MCO one way on 10/12. It is 13,119 points using the Chase travel portal. Booking directly with SWA the same flight is 11,495 points.

Definitely this. We transfer all of our Chase points (Chase Sapphire Reserve for me and Preferred for mrs. brp) to Hyatt as they are the bomb compared to the other chains. Mrs. brp's main card is a Chase Hyatt and we earn both points and stay credit with spend. If one can get to top tier on Hyatt, it is far and away the best hotel program out there.
I do have a good bit of Avios from an Amex Platinum account that we have used to upgrade BA flights.
Cheers.

Thanks again John. After careful review ( ad nauseam) I decided to get the Chase Sapphire Preferred. Using this card for travel and being able to transfer my Chase Freedom Unlimited points to Sapphire ( which then all can be transferred to SW) really looked to be the best scenario considering our travel plans. We only fly SW twice a year, so making companion pass won’t happen. Since we really don’t know how long Early Bird checkin or upgrades will be in effect one the seat option becomes available, the Sapphire made the better choice. Thank you everyone!!!
