I am booked on the Vancouver to Hawaii cruise in September. When the cruise is over, I am planning on booking a few days at Aulani. I have been to Hawaii before, but not Aulani. For those that have been to Aulani, would you prefer to stay longer with less of a view or a shorter stay with an ocean view. Right now, I have all three choices available and just don't know which one to pick.
What is a good length of stay for Aulani?
Also, is there a better day of the week to fly back stateside from Hawaii, like usually cheaper flights or not as busy flights?

I wouldn't look at it as trading view for length. I'd pick my days based on work, school, function, then figure out what I can / want to pay for that time. Pool view is great, ocean view is better. If you're coming off a cruise, ocean view is maybe not as important since you'll just have lived that right? Pool view is nice if you have kids or want to observe the active stuff going on. Just my wife and I, I'd probly do ocean. Good length - as long as you can. Who wants a shorter trip? 3 is good. 2 is short. 4 is better. I like 3 cuz it's enough time to feel like you unpacked your things and stayed a while. It gives you 2 full days to explore the resort. Flights from HI to the states are easy to book and are a little cheaper on Tue-Thu like most vacation destinations.

I'd choose more days over an ocean view.
We'll be at Aulani for six nights in May/June. If your plan is to chill at Aulani, then 3-4 nights is likely good. If you want a combination of Oahu sightseeing plus days to chill at Aulani, you'll need more nights.
Our six nights at Aulani gives us five full days plus arrival and departure days, and since we want to see some of the island plus have a few resort days, six nights forced us to cut back on our sightseeing plans.

Some Island Garden views have partial ocean views. That is the category we booked for our trip in 2022 and we loved it!

I find Ocean View rooms at Aulani are all over the place. Some have amazing views other are just meh. I usually avoid it unless its the only category left. I also don't like high floors so I usually prefer the pool view rooms which are pretty consistent. Sometimes they have peekaboo ocean views.
3-4 nights is good to experience Aulani.
Wed is usually the cheapest day to fly back to the mainland.

I was looking at 7 days or longer as I would like to experience some things off-site as well as relax at the resort. The Disney Wonder arrives on Thursday and I was thinking about staying at Aulani until the following Thursday. I will have the added advantage of basically being acclimated to the time change so I can hit the ground running.

Some Island Garden views have partial ocean views. That is the category we booked for our trip in 2022 and we loved it! We had a great Island Garden view so I would do that again. Unless I had points to spare, I would choose more days over view, but that's just me. We were there for 11 days including the travel days. We came for the Honolulu marathon and then explored the island afterwards plus a few down days at the resort. I've never had an ocean view...so this may be a stupid question (maybe I need to post on the stupid question thread)....with an ocean view can you see the ocean at night or is it too dark? If you can't enjoy it at night, then I most likely wouldn't spend the points on an ocean view, even if I had them, since we're out and about during the day. |

I’ve stayed at Aulani several times and have had all the view categories. I love ocean views, but would gladly settle for the pool views.

I've stayed in Island Gardens, Pool Gardens and Ocean view, and would prefer a longer stay to the view type. I have had great success in getting an ocean view with island gardens category; however, you are at risk for being placed in the Ewa short tower overlooking the conference center below, and that may as well be a standard view to me. We have found that Tuesdays and Wednesdays offer the best airfare from the midwest (we typically fly Alaska Air with connection in Seattle or Southwest with connection in Phoenix or Vegas).

Quick update. I ended up booking Ocean View and a longer stay. I have no idea when I will get back to Aulani and I am the worst for having FOMO and would always be wondering what I was missing not having the Ocean view. Looking at a lot of the room views on YouTube helped me make the decision as well. Thanks for all the tips and suggestions.
I created another thread asking for any tips and suggestions for Aulani and the surrounding area. If any of you that have been to Aulani have ideas for me, please share.
