Thanks - I'm glad the reports can be helpful to others. I did comment to Holli & Vickie that I wouldn't think the trails would be much fun when it's 95 degrees and humid, lol - so good luck! The time with friends is priceless.
DAY 6 – Monday 1/15/24 Who: Sue (65), DVC Member Holli (59), friend & co-worker Vickie (59), Holli’s best friend & college roommate Plan: Hilton Head Diner, Drive to Gainesville
Actual: Disney (& HAL) beds are so comfortable – it would be nice to just stay here for much longer! I slept well and woke early to give myself time to relax with my cappuccino and just not be rushed getting ready to leave. I was awake by 4 but didn’t get up until around 4:20. Holli had brought some of our stuff down to the car yesterday, but I still have some packing up to do this morning. It figures that everything I need to use one last time goes in a different bag <g>.
Around 6 I got up to get a quick shower & get dressed, which let me finish packing. I ran some stuff down to the car and then relaxed in the living room until the others were up. Everyone was showered, dressed, packed and ready to go by 7. We said our goodbyes to Vickie and then went to our cars. She’s got a longer drive than us, going to the NW mountains of Georgia. She also stops to stretch her legs along the way, so it’ll be midafternoon by the time she gets home. Holli & I drove over to Hilton Head Diner and had breakfast. This time we both got the old-fashioned French toast, which is made with challah bread. It was excellent, as always. We were on the road just before 8.
The drive went very well – no weather, no traffic, no accidents, etc. It took just under 4 hours! It’s always so much more fun going TO vacation than coming FROM. Somehow unpacking there is not the ugly chore it is after getting home, lol.
This was a fantastic trip, and I was glad we could spend this time together in another grand villa. The three of us just “fit” in terms of vacation style and interests, which makes it so easy. We got pretty lucky with the weather – for January it was very nice. We enjoyed our meals we ate out as well as our time spent in the villa. Vickie shared a lot of her plans/preparations with us, and she’s got a very realistic view/attitude about her situation. I’d love to see us all back here again next year, but I realize it’s probably a long shot at this point. All we can do is hope for the best.
My next trip will be a little further away than usual, with no trips booked in February. I’ll have a single night at Saratoga Springs in March before a 9-night HAL cruise. After that I have a long weekend in April to experience Flower & Garden Festival before settling back into a more regular series of DVC trips at Walt Disney World (and Hilton Head w/SB in early May).
