We fly SW or AA - whomever flys NS. I just purchased NS SW flights 7 weeks out and at 6 weeks the flights went down so I was able to adjust. We flew on points so the adjustment was painless. While cash flights are non-expiring you need to hold onto the reservation code to recover the credit.
Generally I find SW will have sales upto the 6 week mark and then they tend to go higher or the low priced flights are connectors. The 'opening day' prices have only worked for us in the Fall or over a holiday. Other than that they all seem to fluctuate. Some times early Sunday morning, for some random reason, I've found lower flights.
AA for me is more of a 'crap shoot'. I haven't used them enough to be able to see a pattern. We only started using them when SW stopped offering NS flights out of Philly.

Special shoutout to those who unconsciously encouraged me to research SW flights and discover that their credits do not expire. I am now the proud owner of BUF - MCO tickets and will start the unrelenting process of hunting down and finding those cheaper flights. SW will come to fear my name! Thanks again.
Now, where do I post "any big changes since my last visit in 2019" and "suggestions for Hollywood Studios since we have never (gasp!) been there"...

"suggestions for Hollywood Studios since we have never (gasp!) been there"... Not even when it was MGM? Tee hee I suggest that when you are in a place that looks like New York and you see a tunnel with a bunch of people milling about in it, looking at their phones and seeming to kill time (because right, the only reason we are at Disney is to ride a certain ride and the rest of the day we might as well play on facebook) I suggest you look to your left and go see Muppets 3D instead. Likewise, maybe at another time in the day you are in Toy Story land and see Slinky Dog Dash and then Alien Swirling Saucers, that's a good time to turn around and head back because there's nothing really past that. I guess the scenery is kinda neat and there is a place that sells yummy kebab/wrap things.

We also fly Southwest. My strategy is to book our flights the morning that our dates are released and then continue to check for price drops. I've heard that three months out is the sweet spot and we've rebooked our flights around that time and received flight credits many, many times. Best of luck! That's the same thing I do. Love that with Southwest, you can cancel and rebook. I just rebooked a flight to WDW for January and got about half my money back.

That's the same thing I do. Love that with Southwest, you can cancel and rebook. I just rebooked a flight to WDW for January and got about half my money back. You can do the same thing with the other domestic airlines as well. Southwest are now no different in this. No change fees for the others, either. The one advantage that Southwest have is that their saved funds don't expire. But, if another airline is your preferred (as it is for us), using it is easy. And others are routinely less than WN.
But the cancel and rebook with no change fees is now common.
Cheers.
