I wanted to let you all know that my dear husband, Jerry Flatto (jflatto) passed away last week. It was a complicated situation, but we had no idea there was anything particularly wrong until 2 ½ weeks prior.
Because he had a fused ankle and walking any distance was difficult, many vacation venues weren’t really an option for him – but with an ECV, he could always have a great time at Disney. He just retired in May (I’ll retire next May) and we had planned to spend a fair amount of time at the parks – but that has obviously changed.
He loved Disney so much that he requested to be cremated wearing a Disney Shirt (which we were able to make happen for him)
Although we’ve never met most of you, I know he felt a real kinship with the people on this board (and previously MouseOwners). When we were getting frustrated with some of Disney’s actions (like many of you), the announcement that MouseOwners would shut down was almost the straw that broke the camel’s back – part of the Disney enjoyment was just participating in this community. We were so very happy when it didn't immediately shut down, and then eventually transitioned over here.
I honestly don’t know what I’ll do with our DVC. Our kids (twins) are 21, and while they enjoy Disney, they will soon be starting their careers and likely won’t have a lot of vacation time to enjoy and will likely opt for other vacations for awhile. And I don’t know as I’ll be able to bring myself to go without him, although I may go with my sister occasionally. I suspect I will downsize a bit, but hang on to some.
Thank you all for being a very happy part of his life.
