This isn't close to the resort, but if coming from MCO, we almost always stop at the Publix on Landstar Blvd. I believe it's the first or second exit off 417 as you leave the airport headed towards Disney. There's a Walmart Neighborhood Market there too, if that's your thing. We always take 417 to Disney and rarely hit traffic. Maybe this should be a separate thread, but I'd like to read some thoughts about 528 vs. 417 from MCO to WDW. We've always taken 528 to I-4, and as we all know, traffic on I-4 sucks. I never take I4 unless I have to. No joke. Maybe after 9pm or before 7 it might be faster but I4 is evil and I am glad I no longer have to drive it. If you ever watched Magic Express they were always on 417 for a reason (or I always saw them). 2 summers ago I took a car service to WL and instantly was reminded 9f my hatred of I4. It's cheaper in tolls but that's it. Also coming back on 417 from the south you drive right by a gas station to fill up. Convenient way to fill up now.

When we are in Orlando, these days we are mostly in Championsgate….I can tell you that traffic is the SUCK. On the VERY rare occasion you don’t hit traffic you delude yourself into thinking how nice it is to live there. Lol
We have been seriously discussing moving to the Rheams road area.

I almost always take 417 since it's a straight shot from my house in Sanford all the way down to Disney (Exit 6 or Exit 3). While I appreciate not having to think about where I'm going, traffic can indeed be present on 417 as well. The two lanes closer to the turnpike area don't help. Still no worse than 5-10 minutes more than the primarily I4 route without traffic (ha). Once traffic involved usually much 417 is better, and I much prefer the relatively constant movement as opposed to stop-and-go.

Either of the Publix mentioned above. We use the one in Celebratioin I think this is the one we use. It’s “around the corner” from Gaylord Palms. It’s nicer than the one down 192 across from Target, but we do go there when we are at AKV. We used this Gaylord Palms-Publix when we have been at BWV and Pop which are pretty darn close. We go out down by Pop and travel Osceola Parkway to the corner of Gaylord Palms and avoid a lot of traffic…just the bit to get into the Publix parking lot. Unfortunately, I don’t know any of the roads. I’m local, but not local. We’d go early in the morning which is always best. The Walmart that is near property going out the AKV way is complete insanity. I don’t recommend going there. I didn’t really get Publix, but now that we have lived in FL, I really like them.

I ALWAYS use Google Maps to navigate where I'm going and obey it unfailingly. Depending on conditions at the time, it will take me on some seemingly strange routes, but I have learned more than once that it is pretty much always right in getting me where I'm going in the quickest possible manner.
Seems like every time I take decisions into my own hands and take my own path, it had knowledge about some traffic accident, congestion, construction, or road closure, and I end up regretting my disobedience of my all-knowing phone lol!

We've gone a few times and got groceries and cheap souvenirs and while it's inexpensive, there is a lot of wear and tear on the psyche getting in and out of that place!

But groceries are so much cheaper than our Kroger, I end up justifying going in anyway. I've got a big family and inflation is hitting hard.

I wonder if that's because the rental car garage is closer to the north exit and further from the south (417).

September 2022, I went to that Winn-Dixie on Apopka twice, it was a ghost town both times, which I consider to have a certain value. Plus, it is near our home at OKW, so bonus. PLUS I really like that ABC liquor store that is in the same parking lot.
Same September 2022, wife decided she liked the Publix by the water tower in Celebration. Nice, but certainly NOT a "ghost town". But we both have a hilarious memory of waiting in line for the oft-talked-about "Pub Subs" to which my wife finally bailed from the crazy slow line, saying "The hurricane's going to be here before we get our subs" (hurricane wasn't for another two days)

You said water tower and it clicked. We haven’t gone since we moved here since we can bring items with us. LOL on the hurricane! I guess their deli is always busy. Their “Greenwise” brand which is organic is very good. Prices are lower than many that I have purchased at other places. Their Greenwise ice cream is very good. Price on that has gone up a bit, but what hasn’t recently? And, I watch the sales on Thursday and buy it when it goes on sale. I have some in the freezer now for my second gum surgery coming up the end of June. I have found that on some items they beat the neighborhood Walmart. Like with everything, we rope drop Walmart & Publix and it works out better. They do have great sales that’s why I said I’ve learned to like Publix. Feeding DH is pricey with his ability to eat so much so when they have buy 1 get 1 free on frozen cheese stuffed pasta, he’s all over that! Our DIL loves sushi and she tells us that theirs is pretty decent. They are getting one where they live in GA and they are excited as their Kroger is not well managed and stock has always been an issue even pre-covid.

What I do here at home is drive wife to work in the morning, and after dropping her off at around 7:30, I head over to Walmart and beat the crowds. Nice and quiet. Hate going later in the day. At 7:45 AM you tend not to see the "Walmart shoppers" made famous on the internet.

It is the cheaper of the two but almost always messy.
