So....I just watched most of that video. Wow, it sure looks like a lot of fun and a great place to live and play. I love my beach condo but at this point am very weary of the unknown assessments. Been there......they hurt and suck hard.
We want to be more then 30 minute drive away from WDW. Listing pricing of homes will get better over time. Took years to get here and will take years to get back.

Hi Henry,
You and I have discussed places to retire on the old forum when I expressed interest in Winchester. My family and I actually ended up moving just North of Orlando Summer of 2021. We are in Lake Mary. I’m far from retirement age but I work for a company that has an office in The Villages. It’s a beautiful community with Geriatric Happy Hour every night at the town squares. It can be difficult to find parking if you don’t get your golf cart there by 5pm. But it’s a ghost town by 9pm. Everyone’s had their fill and are in bed pretty early. It does lean conservative politically and there are schools for the children of the employee’s who work there. There are some rules that are a bit “Truman show”. Garbage trucks must collect garbage at night. Ambulances are not allowed to use sirens. The HOA is pretty restrictive on exterior landscaping and colors. I have a few co-workers who live just outside of The Villages proper and they love it. I have to say that I have been surprised by how many people who live in Central Florida and are not fans of Disney. That has been disappointing. Also, Florida universities are quite competitive vs. Virginia schools.

I have recently visited this community and would love to retire there. ! They seem to represent excellence in building also . Definitely worth taking the time to contact a realtor for your next visit. KHOV.com 4 Seasons of Orlando West of I-4 and WorldDrive Interchange between Formosa Gardens Blvd and Old Lake Wilson Road. The location is convenient to WDW too!
( Oops meant this as a reply to LaMima recent post …May 17 )

Does anyone have experience with Solivita? It seems to be like the Villages "lite". It appears to be very pretty in the videos online and I like the Tuscan theme. Also, the area is more politically diverse which I appreciate.

Their houses are lovely. We had lunch in their clubhouse. There is at least one golf course. Lots of activities, pools, hot tubs, etc. It's a good size community. Our friends said it is almost as big as the Villages. It's about 45 minutes from Disney. Their mailing address is Kissimmee.

I have read that it’s important to understand certain things, like upside down pineapples that are on golf carts…someone said…looking for swingers…. Who knows. Lol Also supposedly wearing your shirt with the tag sticking up at the back of your neck is the signal for "I'm available for a hook-up". It sounds like a place with a lot of odd quirks. Healthcare is a problem - the hospital cannot keep up with the demand so for anything serious (and sometimes routine stuff) people have to go to Orlando, Tampa or Ocala for medical care. A friend (also a dvc member) lives there but only because her late husband loved to golf and that's what sold him. Now he's passed, years have passed since they bought there and she's not thrilled to be there - once the exciting newness wore off and reality set in, it wasn't all it's cracked up to be.

Tag sticking up, geez how many times do people not realize a tag is sticking out. That could lead to problems. Where we live now, a local restaurant the bartender when there was a discussion about FL the villages was mentioned. I made a joke about the STD capital. Which actually was reported going back years. He proceeded to tell us he worked there at one point and yes everything we hear is true. Females outnumber males, the circle of LIFE…. He said the other signal was the garage doors being left up. I forget if half up, fully up had meaning. almost 30 years ago, when a doctor was on a news show, gosh I think that abc show with Diane Sawyer. She explained the highest rate of STD’s in the country was at the villages. Her explanation back then was these are 60’s hippies. Peace , love, Woodstock and orgies now grown up in their 60’s. Made sense as an explanation but not sure how a whole other generation comes into play. the shower poof colors on the golf carts. Official reply, it’s so they don’t get confused and can identify their golf cart, in the parking lot. Most of those golf cart communities, the golf carts are very personalized. Some would remind you of mtv’s pimp my ride so I’m not buying into flying shower poofs, lol. look forward to your next TR. always enjoy them even if I don’t sign on to comment. It’s like reading a good book.

Holy cow, there seem to be so many different kinds of "signals" now that we all must be running around inadvertently advertising ourselves to some secret population out there lol!
See if I can get this straight:
Upside-down pineapples Colored Shower Loofahs on your car antenna Tags sticking out on your shirts Black Rings White landscaping rocks Anklets Playing card symbols
Pampas Grass Garden gnomes
and now garage doors!
Any more that I'm missing?

Wow, if only everything we read on the internet was true. Florida DOH statistics indicate that STD per capita within the Villages is below the state average.

What’s interesting is no one is talking about the crime in the Villages. There is a weekly podcast by a retired policeman who lives in the Villages, Skip Smith. He reads all of the crime related incidents in the Villages each week.

Some of the crime talked about is from visiting family members and outsiders of the Villages. But, one has to think if this was a gated community, would those statistics be different?

Wow, if only everything we read on the internet was true. Florida DOH statistics indicate that STD per capita within the Villages is below the state average. Wow, not on the internet…. As in my original post this was years ago, at least two decades plus. It was with a Dr. Discussing STD’s on a news show and stating the highest rate of reported std’s. Glad a different generation learned to practice safe sex. What’s interesting is no one is talking about the crime in the Villages. There is a weekly podcast by a retired policeman who lives in the Villages, Skip Smith. He reads all of the crime related incidents in the Villages each week. Not sure how the residential areas are set up. But gated would be my preferred choice. Also another thing to consider is what are the rules & regs about rentals. We moved to the de/md coastal area. Small development never thinking some would be investors and renting. Well for those who call this our home even those that don’t live here F/T it was a nightmare with some. Lucky me ended up with two out of five rentals on our lane. The HOA tried to rescind it, but not enough votes. They have implemented hefty fines and rules. So you want to make money. Make sure your renters follow the rules. If we do another move I would definitely inquire, because I lived through two summers of bs as did my neighbors. Every Saturday we were thinking. What comes in this week. Some think oh they are paying this much money, no wrong. If you have a three or four bedroom home and people split it. They couldn’t rent an Ocean front hotel for that cost. if you are going to live there or any development you don’t want to during peak season being next door to a weekly rental. With people in out, some very nice others….. just out of control.
