Yes they did require activation for new passes at least up through covid times. My renewal AP from 2020 was changed to a new and in 2021 I had to activate it. I was allowed to make park reservations while waiting to activate though. When I renewed my son’s AP in fall 2022 I was told that he would NOT need to activate his pass at guest relations before entering a park due to a change in how they were managing these tickets. My husband and I already had renewed our APs a few months before that and I asked if we would need to activate ours and they said since ours were renewed before this change went into effect we would need to activate at guest services one more time, but after that we would no longer need to. We did this on our January trip and I am very much looking forward to not needing to do this on future trips! This will be my first time not activating as wel,. My 2022 renewal required it, but not this one. Last year at least it ended mid trip so stopping at GS was easier as we could just go when lines were short. Looking forward to this year!

Seemed like a silly requirement to me. Guest services gets enough people needing help. I don't understand why they didn't figure out how to eliminate that requirement sooner. Regardless, I am also very glad they did. My goal each trip is to not have to stand in a Guest Services line. They are almost always helpful and honor my request, but I'd rather spend that time Disneying.

As annoying as the online DAS renewal is I am grateful for it being online as well. It will be nice not to have to bug GS or the like this trip. Though I did have to stop at a GE tent after my paid ILL time changed on me without notice. I just wanted it recorded and they fixed it for me. Quite nice.

But do not think that applies to the DVC APs. To activate the new AP will still need to go to GS, will not need to for renewal.

Plus there is the email I received which said all I have to do is enter the park. Also, today I called toc check for a Cabana (still no luck there), and asked if I needed to activate the pass and she told me no - just enter the park and it's activated. So that's 3 sources. I'm starting to believe it will work! If anyone is there now, please ask a bus driver so we can confirm!

If this indeed is true, how would MS ensure the DVC member was purchasing APs for members of their house hold only. What would keep me from buying them for family and friends that don’t live with me? I would be interested to know if someone has activated their AP by just entering the park.

I purchased a Sorcerer AP on 4/13; I'm going to WDW on Thursday morning. Unless someone beats me to it, we'll know on Thursday.
I checked the emails I got from Disney after I made the purchase; there's no mention of activating the AP. And the AP shows in Tickets and Passes in MDE. It says, "Disney Vacation Club Member Disney Sorcerer Pass."

Things changed for FL resident day tickets from 2021 to 2022 & 2023 so perhaps DVC tickets have as well? Their IT magical enhancements. Trying to type that with a straight face too!

I’ll let you know soon…… I’m going to GS to get a physical card.

So if I purchase new AP's, rather than renew, it will change our activation date to October so we'll get two Fall trips as well as the Spring trip. Huh, didn't think of that. I'm having the same internal discussion. Do I wait until late Novmber and buy new ones or just renew my existing in May. It only really matters if I do not plan to continue to renew. But there is a possibility we may take a year off and go to Maine with my daughter...but then there are the Grandkids in Jacksonville...ugh..

I skipped going to GS because the line was quite long, and I didn’t want to wait.
I tapped in and walked right through. No issues at all. There was a pass holder only line, which I used. The guy in front of me used the wrong finger….”do I need to use the same one every time?” Pass holders should know better, idiot.
