We're doing our first Disney Cruise later this year. We looked at booking directly or through at TA, and the prices seemed to be the exactly the same. So we went with a TA to get a the shipboard credits. Not sure if that's always the case, or just happened to be true this time. But wed' be interested to know for future cruises (assuming this one goes well and we get hooked). The answer is it depends....If you book with a TA that specializes in Disney, as this cruise, they almost always will give you an onboard credit.
My wife owns Sunny Days Travel (Robin) and I know that she and her agents give OBC when booking a cruise. In fact, all of the Travel Agencies mentioned in all the posts above also will give you an OBC when using them. I always recommend new cruisers to use a Disney Travel agency when booking their first Disney cruise. There is so much that their expertise of the ships, destinations, cabin selection..... tips and hints for the cruise planning, that is worth the effort.
Thanks for the details- good to know. Seems like this is a case where a (Disney specialized) TA always makes sense.

Make sure to book a placeholder cruise before you get off the ship which will give you 10% off a future cruise. We made the mistake of not booking the place holder after our first cruise.
Ha! I think you're right about likely being hooked. For a placeholder booking, do you have to know your date already or is it open ended? Does that interfere with using a TA?

The placeholder is good for two years and is not date based. You buy the placeholder via your DCL cruise app. When you do, it will ask you if you wish to use your current TA or add another.

Also, the placeholders have blackouts during the year, like Christmas and inaugural cruises. Placeholders can not be used for concierge cabins. Placeholders are only good for category 4 thru 11 cabins. You can book up to two placeholders while on your cruise.

The placeholder costs $250 per cabin and is applied to your down payment when you select your next cruise.
