Definitely time for an update on this one. It will be interesting to see, specifically, what they do with it. Cheers. I'm a bit torn on this as it is my favorite ride. I'll mostly miss the songs but I'll reserve judgment on the change until after I see it. It could be great. At DL it makes sense to just continue the New Orleans square theme, get rid of Critter Country altogether and make it the New Orleans bayou. I agree with you on DL - it really just makes sense! I will say Splash didn't make sense in Fronteirland at WDW location wise (just outside of Atlanta really wasn't "frontier" I mean) so I guess that aspect at WDW doesn't matter. I will miss the music most. And the little gopher. But he wasn't working the last few rides I was on. Retheme or not the ride needed it. It was in sad shape in June last year - last time I went on which was my first time in years (it was always down a few trips).

B'rer Rabbit hasn't hopped over the hill in at least a year. The Laughing Place shooting water was hit or miss, mostly not working. I'd like to see them redo Pecos Bill's into a New Orleans themed restaurant, to tie in with the new ride.

The theming at Magic Kingdom is definitely going to be a lot more jumbled in that corner of Frontier land. At DL they can really do it right. They just need to come up with a new attraction to replace Winnie the Pooh.

But, given the background of this story, I absolutely can't support this existing and feel that it should have happened a while back. Like helenabear said, I won't debate this. This is just my view.
Cheers.

I just hope they don't put an over-reliance on projection systems -- it seems like that's WDW's go-to lately and it's getting old.

That's why it needed something - whatever it needed was definitely something. I am not a fan of Pecos Bill's foods (stupid allergy) but changing that to N. Orleans would be an improvement but - would it fit? I just hope they don't put an over-reliance on projection systems -- it seems like that's WDW's go-to lately and it's getting old.

It feels like WDW has given up on attractions fitting the theme of the land, e.g. Guardians doesn't fit in Epcot, IMO. I love the concept of walking from Liberty Square toward Frontierland and the buildings changing from east to west, from colonial times to western expansion times. But if Splash/SotS is set in Georgia, and Tiana/Princess and the Frog are New Orleans, would it matter if Pecos Bill's flipped to Louis' House of Gumbo?

The new ride needs to be better--better sound system, better scenes, better animatronics. If they do a Maelstrom/Frozen makeover it'll not be a good look.

I just hope they don't put an over-reliance on projection systems -- it seems like that's WDW's go-to lately and it's getting old. That's my concern. Though I'm sure they were a maintenance nightmare, one of the things I loved about Splash and continuously harped on to finally get my mom to go on it just once was that there were so many audio animatronics (68 in MK and 103 in DL, per a search) and scenes to see that the show along the way was worth the terrifying (for her) drop near the end. I'm not a fan of getting wet while dressed for non-swimming activities so the ride itself wasn't my favorite but all of the characters and scenes and the music along the way made it worth it on the occasions I decided to deal with the "getting wet" part. Real, tangible moving characters used to be one of the things Disney excelled at and set their rides apart from the rest. I hope they don't significantly slash the number of audio animatronics and sub in a ton of projection scenes in the retheme. If they were to use projection systems to enhance scenes with a plethora of audio animatronic characters and give you the feeling of being out in the wide open bayou, cemetery, city, or wherever when the walls are really just a few feet away, I think that would be a great thing. But, if the retheme/remodel involves keeping just a dozen or so audio animatronics and throwing in a bunch of projection screens and/or projection-based animatronics (whatever they call the ones where the faces and such are projections), then it'll be disappointing.

I honestly am not pressed either way. If frozen fits in Norway this is no where near as big of a stretch!
