I was really hoping for a change, I don't care who - but Iger's time has passed. I really want Tom Staggs back!! I myself have changed from disney animation to japanese anime (watching tv with my kids). I work in education - I work with kids - kids do not talk about disney anymore. Disney is losing the next generation. Overwhelming the kids are watching dragonball (not new - but now easier to watch now due to streaming, other shows - Onepiece, my hero academia, naruto, fruits baskets) Corporations do not reflect the average american. Kids are mixed on star wars - its not the craze it once was, Disney needs to become creative again, or the only thing they will be left with are the parks and DVC:).

It seems to me that DVC hasn't seen any really good perks or special attention since that chick that was only in charge for 3 months and then moved to Paris. JMO

JMO It really feels like the decision was made that since DVC owners are captive audience, Disney doesn't need to do much, if anything, that'd cost the company money with respect to member perks.

I mentioned something similar to the above at this past Halloween. There was almost zero Disney/Star Wars/Marvel costumes worn this past year. Kids right now are not into the Disney movies and their characters being put out now. But why should they....The last 5-6 years, Disney has put out junk after junk after junk. Mario was the big winner last year. 2024 will be not change that because there is nothing coming out new. Only two sequels and one prequel of existing franchises.
I can not even name the main characters of any of the new Disney movies over the last few years.

I can not even name the main characters of any of the new Disney movies over the last few years. In our neighborhood I noticed the boys seem to be into Marvel. Now the girls are princess crazy. Even the 12y next door went out in a Halloween costume based on Princess and the Frog - she was the voodoo character. My nieces girls have tons of princess dresses, although they are very into Barbie. Our 5y GD is always in a princess dress. During babysitting she'll sometimes make up to 3 changes. DD said she's starting to ask about visiting the Disney Princesses. She watches a lot of Fancy Nancy, Elena of Avelor, occasionally Peppa Pig and Bluey, and a ton of Thingypins (Korean animation). Maybe Disney should be looking into Netflix animation shows. I haven't noticed any of the kids being interested in Star Wars or Toy Story

An update to the proxy fight.....
Peltz sold all his Disney shares after the lost in the proxy fight. He gained over a $1 billion from the sale of Disney stock. Looks like Peltz was a winner after all. Maybe "if" the stock falls back down to $70-$80 price range, he will reload with even more stock.......just to make even more money.

Losing = $1 billion sale. Sometimes I think the lives of the ultra wealthy really are in a different universe than the rest of us.
If necessity is the mother of invention, creativity will always be harder for big corps. The excitement & joy that comes from the passion of creating something new is hard to institutionalize.
I agree with Tom that Disney would benefit from doing something new/different. Not sure Disney can, except for looking for/supporting start up's like Pixar was back in the day. I'd be interested if anyone ever did a full analyses of the value the smaller acquisitions brought versus the big dollar ones like Star Wars or Marvel for Disney.

The problem with buying a start-up is 1)Financially, Disney is already burdened with debt 2)They have a creative brain trust void 3)Disney has been into short term planning, no longer playing the long strategy.

The problem with buying a start-up is 1)Financially, Disney is already burdened with debt 2) They have a creative brain trust void 3)Disney has been into short term planning, no longer playing the long strategy. This is where they fail. They have lost their creative side. My son was telling me earlier tonight that Universal is expected to be more crowded than Disney this summer. I imagine it has to do with the Epic preview center opening at City Walk. The other part of the problem - i feel - disney is so set on creating strong female characters - which is fine - but it is always at the expense of the male characters. disney had the perfect balance for movies in the early 2000's when the did the princess and the frog, tangled ect. Tianna was a workoholic and the prince was lazy. They balanced each other out and helped each other grow. Same in tangled - Rapunzel and Flynn helped each other to grow. I want to see something new, and character growth.
